MBC Announces 2023 Drone Show Korea RTK GPS Receiver New Product 'SMC-2000'

MBC (CEO Park Sung-je) announced that it will participate in the 2023 Drone Show Korea 2023 held in BEXCO, Busan from February 23 (Thursday) to 25 (Saturday).

MBC Culture Broadcasting started its high-precision RTK GPS service in 2017 and is currently selling various high-precision GPS terminals. Officials explain that MBC RTK products are being used not only in the drone field but also in various mobility fields that require high-precision location information based on broadcasting technology, IT services, and RTK precision positioning technology that have been accumulated. MBC RTK products have built-in satellite calibration information services, and users can use cm-class RTK precision positioning technology anywhere in the country without needing a separate reference station by utilizing LTE and DMB networks.

The SMC-2000, which will be introduced at this exhibition, is designed exclusively for drones and is considered to be much stronger, smaller, and lighter than before. The SMC-2000 is effective in configuring drone aircraft for commercial services as it is equipped with not only a cm-class precision measurement, but also an LTE router function essential for non-visible flight and a three-year communication line. In addition, it is a product that integrates a mobile fixed base, RTK GPS terminal, and LTE communication router, which can simplify the flight control system and takes up less space. MBC explained that adding a sub-product called SMC+ can form a dual antenna RTK, which supports safer and more precise flight.

An MBC official said, "RTK GPS is becoming an essential technology in drones. Despite its ease of use and excellent performance compared to foreign products, our RTK product was sold at a high price, so there was a limit to the price burden to be applied to commercial drones. Accordingly, it developed a low-end domestic RTK GPS with the support of commercializing drone HW by the Korea Institute of Aviation Safety and Technology last year. It is jointly developed and supplied at a reasonable price with CNERREX, a supplier specializing in precision measurement solutions, and it can be purchased online, increasing user accessibility," he explained.

MBC RTK has been applied to more than 150 drone aircraft. In response, an official said, "With the launch of the new product SMC-2000, we aim to sell 500 units per year this year, and we expect it to be applied to more than 1,000 commercial drone aircraft annually in the future. It is also planning to develop MRP-2000 v2 and SMC-2000 globally and export them. Through this, we will cooperate to make it easier to solve precise measurement and communication issues by applying MBC RTK terminals when domestic drone companies enter overseas markets," he said.

In addition, he said, "We are preparing a SMC-2000 global model that applies global roaming USIM, and especially in the North American market, we are also preparing a convergence MRP-2000 ATSC model using ATSC 3.0-based broadcasting network," adding, "Please look forward to MBC RTK technology being active in the mobility market in the U.S.
